Obituary

On August 6, 2026, at the age of 95, a still robust, well-read, and well-loved Roberto Domingo Muiña passed into the afterlife.

Born into a family of plaster artisans, his family arrived in Uruguay from Spain in the 1920s. His family line was Basque, from the mountains between Spain and France. A well-known name there; Muiña means “glue.” Uruguay attracted many immigrants leaving Europe; Italians, French, Spanish and Jews were his neighbors. Uruguay is at the tip end of South America, where the winter winds are icy as Antarctica is adjacent. Roberto loved growing up in Montevideo, the main city, with its long promenade called the “Rambla,” running the entire coast of the city.

Also from a pioneering family, his wife Alyce Kasm Patrick was smitten by Roberto’s worldly refinement. His romantic charms included singing and comic impressions. Roberto was a true humanitarian graced with positivity and entertaining wit.

He showed daring at car race rallies and still owned many trophies. After earning degrees in Electrical Engineering and Radio, he pursued his tinkering ability toward computers, eventually working for IBM for over 40 years. He came to the U.S. in 1969, with then-wife Myriam to pursue the American Dream. He continued to pursue education, earning a Masters degree in Computer Science in his 50s. At the time, the property purchased in Palm Coast had to be seen via boat. He and his wife often visited Europe to see the land of their ancestors and collected art.

Language was Roberto’s passion. From his 58 years in the U.S., his English was superlative. He also knew bits of Italian, French, and German. He also studied Euskara, the original Basque language. Politics were also heartfelt for him. Roberto had seen firsthand the death and destruction of dictators. He adored Jimmy Carter for his goodness and candor.

He is survived by his nephew Robbie Machado and Marie Isabel; their two sons Juan Pablo and Joaquin Machado and their wives of Montevideo, Uruguay; Edward Larre; as well as his cousin Ricardo Muiña and family.

Private services were held under the care and direction of Lotus Funeral Services, 460 Palm Coast Pkwy, Ste 3, Palm Coast.

The Muiña family created floats in Montevideo, Uruguay.
